Dental Implants

What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are posts made of titanium which are implanted into the jaw bone. The bone grows around and integrates with the post, creating a replacement “root”. This provides a structure around which a restoration can be built to replace a single tooth, or to which a bridge or denture can be affixed to replace multiple teeth.

Am I a Candidate for Dental Implants?

Almost anyone can be a candidate for dental implants; the main differences between patients have to do with how much preparatory work must be completed prior to implant placement. When a tooth is lost, underlying bone begins to dissolve, and sufficient bone is required to securely hold an implant in place.

The Dental Implant Process

Dental implants are surgically inserted into the jaw bone. The implant uses a titanium post that bonds with the jawbone, permanently securing it in place. Eastridge Family Dental works with patients to create custom treatment plans designed to restore your smile. Dr. Ristow has been trained in implant dentistry and has the skills and experience needed to ensure your dental implant will be successful.

Patients will come to our office and receive an evaluation of their oral health to determine if they are candidates for dental implants. Certain patients may have health conditions that may require a different type of dental procedure to be used. If we find there is not enough bone density to hold the implant in place, bone grafting may be required. The bone will help to strengthen the area to ensure the dental implant will be successful. Following bone grafting, patients come back several months later to ensure the bone is ready for the procedure.

The dental implant procedure will involve anesthesia to numb the area. Dr. Ristow will then begin the implant process by surgically drilling into the jawbone and securing the implant in place. The implant is covered by an abutment, which will hold a prosthetic tooth in place. Dental implants are deemed one of the most successful dental procedures, with a 98% success rate. When performed by an experienced dental implant specialist like Dr. Ristow, you can be rest assured that the implant will be safely inserted and will be able to help restore your smile.

How Much Do Dental Implants Cost?

The final cost of your implant will depend on a variety of factors, again, mostly having to do with the location of the desired implant, number of implants required, and any prep work needed to prepare the site for a successful dental implant. Overall, a dental implant is often the most cost effective tooth replacement option long term.
